Another World Sound Healing Day has now come and gone! It was our 13th, and from all the feedback we’ve received, certainly the biggest and the most active one yet. We are grateful.
I’ve done a fair amount of radio shows this year and in past years with regard to helping promote this globally important event. And among other things, I’m usually asked to talk about how events such as World Sound Healing Day have been measured through places like Princeton University and Heart Math Institute. Both of these wonderful places have now teamed up with the Global Coherence Project. I am happy to offer what little bit of information I’m aware of, having interviewed on my Healing Sounds Radio Show many of the scientists who have measured various energetic phenomenon with the equipment they have available.
One thing I often tell people who are interviewing me about World Sound Healing Day is that I think that in terms of the development of the instrumentation necessary for adequate and correct measurement of the different types of energy that manifests through such events, I still believe we are at our infancy. This doesn’t mean that the information collected by these wonderful research teams is invalid—far from it. It simply means that from my perspective, some of the energy (perhaps the most important in terms of truly effecting us and our planet—which may not have a name right now, but may be the real thing that makes a difference) that we’re interested may not be known about. Other energies may be so subtle and refined, there may not be instrumentation to measure it.
I remember that back in the 1980’s when I first began studying the power of sound to influence and affect us, I came across some material written by a scientist who pointed out that at around the turn of the 20th century, x-rays had not yet been proven. In addition, the existence of the mountain gorilla was not yet validated. Now, of course we know that both are real (though the fate of the gorilla at this point may be more worrisome than one would like to acknowledge).
What’s important for us to remember is that much of the energy (like x-rays) often needs to have some sort of instrumentation in order to prove it’s real. And frequently, this energy may be around for a long time before the instrumentation is developed.
I’m not going to go into a tirade now about the lack of tools to prove certain things. I will acknowledge that back in the 1980’s, I was shown how to feel auric fields with my hands. And despite my cynicism and skepticism, it was real. And I knew it was extremely important in the healing process (among other things).
Now, over 30 years later, while there are wonderful devices that seem to be able to measure these fields around our body, there is a certain group of the medical and scientific community that refuses to believe that such fields exist. At one point, a stage magician working with a young girl proved that such a thing as “therapeutic touch” was unreal. It was quite a demonstration.
From my recollection, there was a science fair in which a piece of wood (or perhaps it was cardboard) had wholes cut in it. On one side sat this young girl. On the other side was the sensitive healer who would stick their hands through the slots in the wood. Then, the young girl would put her hand or hands over one or both of the healer’s hands (the healer could not see this and could only sense it). The result was that most of the time, the healer guessed wrong. Which proved that therapeutic touch (Reiki and all the other energetic healing techniques) were fraudulent.
Now, I watched this demonstration on television (it was covered by local and national news and is readily accessible for anyone who wants to invalidate any sort of energy medicine). As I saw this, I realized that the young girl was focusing her energy over the hand of the healer despite the fact that this girl was not placing her hand there. If any of you have dealt with energy, you know the power of our thoughts in terms of their ability to focus energy. Thus, this girl was “fooling” the healers by projecting her energy over the hand of the healer—despite the fact that her own hand was not there. To the healer they felt something and reported something. What they reported was apparently enough evidence that therapeutic touch was invalidated.
Trouble is that while those skeptics who wanted to show that energy medicine was all bunk had not difficulty in believing this “experiment”, I’ve been working with subtle energy for years and I know it’s real. Perhaps I’m wrong in my supposition about what went down at this Science Fair where the little girl did her experiment. Or perhaps I am correct.
What matters is that this relatively infantile experiment was enough to demonstrate to a certain percentage of the scientific population that auric fields and energy medicine was a myth. I guess just like they believed many years before with the gorilla.
[As many of you know, there have been inventions and devices that have manifested that have done extraordinary things in terms of measurement—everything from Royal Rife’s microscope to Kirlian Photography. Most often, these inventions are discredited by the scientific community. This saddens me, but it occurs quite frequently.] If something doesn’t fit into the current world paradigm, it’s usually dismissed.
Thus, with regard to events such as World Sound Healing Day, it is my belief that while we may have some marvelous instrumentation to measure the effects of a large group of humans projecting the energy of compassion through sound to our planet, it is my understanding that we cannot yet truly nor measure what is really going on. And ultimately, even if we were able to measure such energetics, we might not be able to understand nor understand what it means. There may be some instrumentation that can show us some extraordinary effects of various electro-magnetic or etheric fields, but I’m just not sure we’re there yet. Inwardly—intuitively—I know that when large groups of people get together to pray and meditate and project the energy of love to each other and our planet, there is a change. When we add the element of intentionalized sound, I know that the field that is created is amplified. And the energy and the interface of this energy is greater.
From the deepest level of my being, I know how important days such as World Sound Healing Day are. And I know that in the future, there will be a time when there is instrumentation—machines, devices and the works—which will show us exactly what is going on and why and how. Until that time, I simply have to trust my inner self, knowing that part of events that focus on global gatherings of positive consciousness also have to with the Great Mystery. And for the moment at least, such events must remain a mystery for a reason.
